August 05 , 2025

Xiamen Tmax Battery Equipments Limited was set up as a manufacturer in 1995, dealing with lithium battery equipments, technology, etc.  We have total manufacturing facilities of around 200000 square foot and more than 230 staff. Owning a group of experie-nced engineers and staffs, we can bring you not only reliable products and technology, but also excellent services and real value you will expect and enjoy.

Button cell batteries, including models like the CR2032, are small, circular batteries used in a variety of compact electronic devices. The case or can of these batteries is crucial for containing and protecting the internal components while providing electrical connections. Here’s an overview of button cell cases, focusing on their materials and design aspects:

Materials Used for Button Cell Cases

1. Stainless Steel
Usage: Commonly used for the outer shell (can) of button cell batteries.
Properties: Stainless steel provides excellent mechanical strength and corrosion resistance. It ensures that the battery remains sealed and protected from environmental factors such as moisture and dust. Additionally, stainless steel serves as the positive terminal of the battery.

2. NickelPlated Steel
Usage: Typically employed for the top cover of the button cell, which acts as the negative terminal.
Properties: Nickel plating enhances corrosion resistance and improves electrical conductivity. This ensures reliable electrical contact between the battery and the device it powers.

3. Nylon or Polypropylene
Usage: Often used for the sealing gasket located between the top cover and the can.
Properties: These materials provide excellent insulation and sealing properties, preventing electrolyte leakage and ensuring the battery remains sealed throughout its operational life.

4. Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE, Teflon)
Usage: Sometimes used as an alternative to nylon for the sealing gasket.

Properties: PTFE offers superior chemical resistance and nonstick properties, making it ideal for applications where the battery might be exposed to harsh conditions. It ensures better insulation and helps prevent leaks.

Design Aspects of Button Cell Cases

Outer Shell (Can): The can houses all internal components of the battery and serves as the positive terminal. It must be precisely manufactured to standard sizes to ensure compatibility with devices designed for specific battery types.

Top Cover: Acts as the negative terminal and is sealed against the can using an insulating gasket. This design prevents short circuits and ensures no leakage of the electrolyte.

Sealing Gasket: Located between the top cover and the can, this component is critical for maintaining the seal of the battery. It protects against electrolyte leakage and external contaminants.

Importance of Case Design and Material Selection

Containment and Protection: Ensures that the internal components are securely contained and protected from physical damage and environmental factors.

Electrical Connection: Facilitates the flow of electricity by serving as one of the battery's terminals, either positive (the can) or negative (the top cover).

Leak Prevention: By effectively sealing the battery, the case prevents electrolyte leakage, which is essential for both functionality and safety.

The careful selection of materials and precise engineering of button cell cases contribute significantly to the reliability, performance, and longevity of these batteries. Whether powering watches, calculators, medical devices, or other lowpower electronics, the design and construction of the button cell case are vital for ensuring safe and efficient operation.
